GSTS supports Manchester Royal Infirmary during Manchester Marathon 2025
On Sunday 27 April 2025, GSTS provided critical additional security support to Manchester Royal Infirmary during the 2025 Manchester Marathon. The city’s annual marathon draws thousands of runners and spectators, creating a significant increase in foot traffic and potential security risks.
The requirement from our customer was clear: 15 extra officers on top of the 25 already on duty. Our team responded rapidly, demonstrating flexibility and professionalism under pressure. As a result, we were able to maintain a visible and proactive security presence throughout a very busy day.
Security officers played a vital role in supporting the hospital’s operations. They monitored access points, assisted visitors, and responded to any developing incidents in real time. In addition, officers worked closely with hospital staff to minimise disruption caused by road closures and the sheer volume of marathon spectators.
GSTS teams remained highly visible around entrances, car parks, and key pedestrian areas. By adopting a proactive and approachable presence, our officers were able to deter unauthorised access and provide reassurance to patients, staff and visitors.
Events like the Manchester Marathon highlight the importance of adaptable, responsive security services in healthcare environments. With extensive experience supporting NHS partners, GSTS Healthcare Security Services is proud to offer trained, professional teams capable of scaling up security operations when required.
We are pleased to have once again delivered a seamless service at Manchester Royal Infirmary, ensuring the hospital remained safe, secure and accessible for everyone throughout the day.
