GSTS Chief Executive Officer Gareth Conlon has been named a finalist for the Imbert Award 2026. The recognition came at the Association of Security Consultants Gala Awards, which followed the ConSeC 2026 Conference. It caps a remarkable year of study and achievement.

The Imbert Award is presented annually by the Association of Security Consultants. It recognises outstanding dissertation research on security-related subjects across the UK. The award takes its name from Lord Peter Imbert, former Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and the ASC’s first Patron.

Gareth reached the final for his dissertation, “From Bollards to Martyn’s Law: The Evolution of the UK’s Counter-Terrorism Response to Vehicle-as-a-Weapon Attacks”. The University of Portsmouth, the ASC’s first official Partner Organisation, nominated the work for the award.

National recognition for the Imbert Award dissertation

The nomination follows a proud summer for Gareth, who graduated with First Class Honours in Risk and Security Management earlier this year. His dissertation examined how the UK’s counter-terrorism response to vehicle attacks has developed, from physical measures through to Martyn’s Law. That subject sits close to home for GSTS, whose teams protect busy public-facing environments every day.

“It was a really proud moment to receive national recognition as a finalist,” Gareth said. “A huge thank you to the University of Portsmouth for nominating me and supporting me throughout my studies, and to everyone at the ASC for the recognition and for putting on such a fantastic conference and awards evening.”

The day brought plenty beyond the ceremony too. “It was great to meet so many people from across the security industry, share the evening with my wife and celebrate some fantastic achievements,” Gareth added. “Congratulations to all involved.”

Everyone at GSTS congratulates Gareth on the Imbert Award recognition. Above all, it shows the thinking behind the business keeps developing, and clients feel the benefit of that every day.
