I feel immensely proud to have been appointed as the Operations Director – Healthcare at GSTS, a company formally recognised for providing industry-leading specialist security, risk management and risk mitigation services for NHS clients. I look forward to meeting my healthcare security colleagues and frontline teams across the estate, building on the exceptional work already underway in this demanding environment. I’d also like to thank my predecessor Wayne Pugh for his steadfast support during this transition.

Aldin is proud to serve as a GSTS Security Operations Manager for Manchester Foundation Trust (MFT) – one of the largest and most complex NHS Trusts in the UK. GSTS is the contracted security provider across key sites including Manchester Royal Infirmary. Aldin’s role is to ensure a safe, secure and supportive environment for patients, staff and visitors at one of the busiest healthcare campuses in the country.

He brings with him a strong background in healthcare security, having started in the sector in 2015. After an initial period with GSTS, he became Security and Risk Manager at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, where he led on trust-wide risk planning, incident response and security governance. He later returned to GSTS to resume his leadership role within MFT – further strengthening the operation with his experience and in-depth understanding of NHS requirements.

In his current post, Aldin leads a large, diverse security team – ensuring staff are well-trained, equipped and supported to meet the operational and safeguarding needs of a major hospital trust. His responsibilities include managing incident response, staff deployment, compliance with NHS policies, lone working protection and coordination with clinical services.

Aldin maintains strong, professional relationships with both GSTS and MFT leadership teams, working closely with clients to ensure security provision is not only compliant and effective but also aligned with the Trust’s values and operational priorities.

For me, healthcare security is about more than just presence – it’s about professionalism, trust and supporting the frontline. My focus is always on helping people feel safe so they can focus on care.

Nichola brings over 20 years of experience in the security industry, starting her journey with GSTS as a Security Officer before progressing through roles as Supervisor, Deputy Manager and now Contract Support Manager. Her extensive experience has given her a deep understanding of the security field and a commitment to fostering growth and excellence within the company.

In her current role, Nichola supports both her teams and the unique needs of the client sites under her management. She oversees a portfolio of eight security sites across the UK, from Leeds to Cardiff, each playing a critical role in her clients’ logistics operations. Nichola ensures that GSTS provides tailored security solutions, including 24/7 on-site security presence, advanced surveillance systems and ongoing support, enabling seamless operations and asset protection.

Nichola is passionate about empowering her team and promoting a culture of professionalism and reliability. She values the dynamic nature of her role, balancing operational challenges, building strong client relationships and driving the success of her teams.

What I enjoy most about my role is the opportunity to make a difference – whether it’s supporting my teams, solving challenges or seeing the direct impact of our work in delivering outstanding service to our clients.

As Healthcare Security Manager at Manchester University Hospital, one of the largest foundation trusts in Europe, Ian plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, visitors and hospital property. With a daily footfall of over 22,500 – rising significantly during busy clinic periods – he leads a team of 115 security personnel across a four-tier rota, ensuring comprehensive security coverage and readiness.

Ian’s responsibilities include conducting and actioning risk assessments, coordinating emergency plans, overseeing surveillance operations and investigating security breaches. He works closely with the hospital’s management team to address patient and visitor concerns, manage event security and ensure compliance with healthcare protocols. Ian also drives ongoing training programs for security staff, fostering a highly prepared and compassionate team.

A key aspect of Ian’s role is balancing rigorous security protocols with the dignity and privacy of patients. This includes managing bed watch services to monitor at-risk patients, particularly those requiring medical or mental health care, ensuring safety while preventing escalation. By adapting security measures to emerging threats and maintaining effective emergency response coordination, Ian helps the hospital stay prepared for any situation.

A secure environment is fundamental to excellent healthcare. My goal is to ensure that staff and patients feel safe and supported, allowing the hospital to focus on delivering outstanding care.

Ash began his career in the security industry in 2006 as a support officer, gaining hands-on experience across diverse sites including gatehouses, data centres and magistrates courts. By 2010, he progressed to Operations Manager for a national contract, where he developed extensive expertise with systems such as Timegate and MS Excel, using them to create efficient trackers and schedules. Unlike many, Ash focused on making systems work for the team, rather than the team working for the systems.

Ash joined GSTS over three years ago as Management Information Manager, overseeing all business systems and payroll. During his tenure, innovation has been at the heart of his approach, leading to significant improvements in the functionality and accuracy of the Timegate system. These changes have resulted in zero pay queries for nearly two years and have enabled direct communication with employees through the system’s portals.

Ash’s recommendations have also driven the adoption of other technologies, such as FastField, which has automated over 95% of paper-based forms, including staff appraisals, toolbox talks (TBT), and SIA checks. He has also expanded the use of Smartsheet, transforming it from a site-specific tool into a platform for automated alerts, SIA licence expiry notifications, vehicle checklists and customer satisfaction forms accessed via QR codes.

I’m passionate about driving innovation and streamlining processes. By making systems work smarter, we empower our teams to focus on what truly matters – delivering excellence for our clients.

Jordan is proud to serve as GSTS Security Contract Manager for WTWA hospitals, overseeing security provisions at Wythenshawe, Altrincham, Withington and Trafford General—widely regarded as the ‘jewel in the NHS crown’ and steeped in history as the UK’s first NHS hospital. His work ensures security services across these sites are underpinned by NHS values, maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Jordan’s role spans both acute and community hospitals, balancing the diverse demands and skillsets required for each site. He develops and implements tailored security strategies, addressing everything from routine patrols and emergency protocols to site-specific risks. Leading a team of five supervisors and over 50 security officers, Jordan ensures his staff are well-trained, properly equipped and aligned with the latest Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) techniques, hospital policies and security procedures. Regular meetings and performance reviews are integral to his approach to maintaining high security standards.

A key aspect of Jordan’s role is fostering strong client relationships. He works collaboratively with NHS leadership to address concerns, provide updates and implement feedback to continually enhance security provisions. Jordan also assesses potential risks, implementing mitigation strategies and leading incident responses to ensure swift and effective action, alongside thorough documentation and investigation. His work supports WTWA’s broader goals by ensuring security policies are compliant and effective.

For me, delivering exceptional security services is about teamwork and trust. I am committed to creating a safe environment where patients and staff can focus on what truly matters – quality care.

As Deputy Security Manager at MRI, Abdalla supports the Security Manager in overseeing daily security operations and works closely with hospital departments to ensure all measures align with healthcare regulations and policies. With a focus on maintaining a secure environment, Abdalla supervises shifts, assigns daily tasks and provides essential training to prepare the security team for handling everything from routine protocols to emergency situations.

Abdalla’s expertise includes conducting thorough security assessments to identify vulnerabilities and implementing strategic improvements to minimise risk. His responsibilities also extend to emergency management where he develops coordinated response plans for critical incidents and collaborates with local police and emergency response teams when necessary. He manages incidents, conducts investigations and prepares detailed reports, ensuring incidents are analysed and addressed effectively.

Abdalla places a strong emphasis on compliance, regularly updating and reinforcing security protocols to meet the latest regulatory standards in healthcare security.

I believe that a safe environment is the foundation of effective healthcare. By prioritising security, we allow medical teams to focus on what matters most—delivering exceptional patient care.
